Should you service your boiler in summer? Why off-peak beats the winter rush

Most people think about their boiler service in October when the first cold morning arrives - and by then so does everyone else. Booking in June, July or August means you beat the rush, get faster appointments and pay the same price for a more relaxed job.

Three good reasons to service in summer

• ◆Appointment availability - summer is the quietest period for heating engineers, so you get the slot you want rather than the only one left
• ◆Boiler access - most boilers sit in utility rooms or airing cupboards, and the engineer can work in one of those more comfortably in warm weather
• ◆No disruption - the brief period without heating during a summer service has no impact on your comfort, unlike a service on a cold October day

Does your warranty require it this year?

Most boiler warranties require an annual service to remain valid. If you are not sure when your last service was, check the service book in the boiler manual pack or call us - we log every service we carry out and can look it up.

The period from late September to November is when breakdown calls peak. Engineers who have been servicing boilers through the summer are well-stocked with common parts and familiar with the local housing stock's typical faults. A summer service also tells you the boiler is in good health before it has to run every day.
