How to find a Gas Safe engineer near Horley, Reigate and Redhill

Surrey has plenty of heating engineers, but they are not all equal. Before you book a boiler service, a new installation or an emergency repair near Horley, Reigate or Redhill, here is what to look for and how to check credentials.
Check the Gas Safe Register first
By law, any engineer working on gas appliances in the UK must be registered with the Gas Safe Register. You can check any engineer's licence at gassaferegister.co.uk using their registration number. The licence card shows which types of gas work they are qualified for - not all engineers are qualified for every appliance type.

National booking platforms and energy-company engineers serve broad geographies. Wait times can be measured in days and call-out charges often apply on top. What is the difference between Gas Safe and CORGI?
CORGI was the previous UK gas registration body, replaced by Gas Safe Register in 2009. Any engineer still advertising as CORGI registered is advertising outdated credentials. The current legal requirement is Gas Safe registration.
Do I need a Gas Safe engineer just to bleed a radiator?
No. Bleeding a radiator does not involve the gas installation and can be done by the homeowner or any competent person. You only need a Gas Safe engineer for work on gas appliances, pipework, flues and meters.
Are plumbers automatically Gas Safe registered?
No. Plumbing and gas work are separate qualifications. A plumber without Gas Safe registration cannot legally work on gas appliances. Always check before assuming any plumber can handle gas work.
